My desire to be a Staging Mentor is a little selfish, I must confess, for a couple reasons. One, in order for my business to succeed, our staging INDUSTRY must succeed as well. Every stager represents our industry, so I have a vested interest in helping new stagers in my area learn the art and business of staging. And Two, I remember the first year of my business I kept hyperventilating at each job. I questioned everything I did. Although I had staged many times as a hobby, launching my business and getting PAID for staging put a whole new twist on it. I HAD to deliver a great product that got my clients results (fast sale at top dollar) and be efficient in doing it - - and I wasn’t sure if I was accomplishing those goals that first year. I believe there’s nothing like hands-on experience and shadowing in the footsteps of an expert. I had wanted to shadow a mentor, but there weren’t any on our islands, and travel to the continental U.S. for the shadowing just wasn’t in my budget. So I know how alone it can feel starting a new business, and thus feel that desire to help new stagers. My way of Paying-It-Forward.

I am a staging mentor based out of Peoria, Illinois where I own and run a very successful staging and rental company. We provide staging services to sellers and Realtors that include vacant listings, occupied consults and showcasing, rental packages, downsize services and re design. S.O.S. was started in 2004 before anyone knew what staging was in central Illinois, so we are a grass roots company focused on education and marketing to build our industry in this area. I am the State President for Illinois, have served on the board of the Women's Council of Realtors and provide classes to our Realtors. Describe your teaching style:
Home Staging can be in the form of a Consultation, or for an Occupied or Vacant home. Understanding what to look for when walking through a home, how to deliver that information orally to a seller and still put together a written report of the findings can be extremely intimidating if one has not done that before. Occupied Stagings can also require a diplomatic and creative approach when working with other's belongings to enhance a home in such a way that does not insult the homeowner and can be a great learning experience for a new stager. Vacant Stagings require the most amount of advance preparation, so again another worthwhile mentoring session to those that are unfamiliar with the process of the contracts, planning, & execution of staging a vacant home. I truly love what I do and sharing that love through a mentoring session is day to help others learn, receive valuable insight, have questions answered and goes without saying that although there is a lot to learn, it should be fun too
I am a Staging Mentor based in the Charleston, Mount Pleasant SC area. I specialize in Vacant Staging and I do offer staging consultation, occupied staging and redesign services. I began The Humble Abode in June 2013 and became accredited through HSR in February 2014. Since becoming accredited, I have been among the top stagers in our area. I am a home staging Mentor based in Rowlett, Texas. Staging Dallas serves real estate agents and home owners all over the Dallas metro area. I primarily work with occupied listings, but have furniture inventory available for staging vacant properties as well. My company motto is "Styling Homes to Sell." I have been putting that motto to work for agents in the area for 6 years.

Home staging is so much more than making a house "look pretty." Before becoming a Home Stager, I was a teacher in the public schools. That experience taught me that hands-on experience is the best way to learn a new skill. When working with a staging student, I like to give them a room to work on themselves, then discuss what they did, why, and how to improve on it.

Describe why you become a Staging Mentor.
Being a staging mentor through HSR gives me the opportunity to coach and mentor qualified staging students who have first committed to educating themselves on the business of this industry. In my opinion training often separates those who are serious about the business over someone perhaps not as serious but wanting to "pick our brains" to see what may work. The time we invest as mentors comes at price over years of hard work and hard knocks in an industry just a few years ago that wasn't so "friendly" to home stagers (and is still not widely accepted in some markets yet!). While I get a lot of requests from those seeking to come into the industry, I will always share that to "shadow" or be mentored, they must first commit to educating themselves with training. HSR is a RESA approved staging training company and has been a leader in the industry for years. I know the staging students coming out of the program are at the point that when being coached and mentored helps move them forward. They come with the right questions and right mind set about learning from pros who have been paving the way for the staging industry often in their local markets. It's an apprenticeship like no other if you're serious about a career in home staging.

I would rather "teach someone to fish over giving them a fish". We all have to develop systems and processes unique to our own style of operating, personalities and skill sets. I want to empower my students to feel confident and capable in their abilities and to develop their own unique style of the way they do something. They may take a bit of my knowledge and experience and incorporate it into something even better for themselves and it's exciting to see the light-bulb moments that happen when something and someone "clicks"! I enjoy collaboration and idea sharing. In this business, it's always good to be moving forward and learning new ideas, trends and industry standards and they are always evolving and changing.
I am a Staging Mentor in Austin TX and the owner of Austin Premier Home Staging. I became an HSR Certified Home Stager in 2009 and have a successful, growing and very busy business. We provide a wide range of services including occupied staging, vacant staging, color consulting and interior design. I enjoy mentoring other stagers because I believe hands on learning is an essential part of the staging training. I was very fortunate to shadow a few stagers back in 2009/2010 which helped give me the confidence to go out on my own.
